‘Live to eat, not eat to live’ that is my idea way of eating. I enjoy eating good food. I rather starve for hours, strike not to eat instead of eating a bad meal of cheap casserole without soul that is not even free! I am Eva from Johor Bahru, Malaysia, was raised under the Chinese background, has been living in Helsinki, Finland for 6 years now with my Finnish husband. During these years, I have been cooking to satisfy my desire of Asian home food. Those delicacies that are cooked by my mom, my grandmother, my aunt, my uncle, street hawkers and local restaurants, are haunting me every minutes, so delicious! To decide what to eat next has been my daily problems. I only cook what I want to eat and that picture of dish would start creating its own shape in my head way beforehand, that I can’t live without tasting it. That’s the typical me. I get super cranky of not eating.
This blog will show you how I cook and what I eat, as an Malaysian living in Northern Europe who misses home especially because of its food. For a long time, many of my friends have been asking me for recipes. And I thought that it would be a great idea to start a blog, so that my Asian-taking-pictures-everywhere-before-eating has a point now. 😉
For your information I’m also writing my thesis from this blog for my Bachelor Degree program in Hospitality Management. Do follow me, give feedback or leave comment to me, it would give a big push for my thesis research. I very much appreciate you to do that!
I also happen to be a professional singer in Finland. I sing in an Indie Pop band called Eva on the Western Castle Island. If you like music too, please check us out in Youtube, Soundcloud, Spotify or Facebook and listen to our summery songs. We just got our debut EP album released in Germany, Finland and Japan. Sooner or later you will notice that singing, cooking and traveling are my biggest passion in life.
My greediness and homesickness are my biggest drivers of cooking. And I am not professional, at all. I am learning from everyone, I Google and Youtube a lot. I read a lot of cookbooks and watched a lot of cooking TV shows. Follow my steps, give me some courage, watch me grow on my endless journey. Welcome!
Q1: How did I get my recipes?
I tried out a lot of recipes and usually change some of the ingredients or mise en place accordingly to my liking. I got inspired by many, my families and friends too. Otherwise listed, copy paste is not my purpose in this blog. 🙂
Q2: About the pictures?
All the pictures are taken by me and my husband, with iPhone and Canon 500D. It’s okay to use my pictures as long as you quote down the reference of from where you’ve got it.
